Announcement
WoWSQL’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) server is public on GitHub. Teams can read the source, run it locally against their WoWSQL API, or connect AI clients to the hosted endpoint.

What it is
An HTTP MCP server (Streamable HTTP / JSON-RPC over POST) that sits in front of the WoWSQL API with OAuth 2.0 authorization code + PKCE. Assistants such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, and VS Code can list projects, inspect tables, run SQL, search docs, and list storage buckets — subject to feature gates and project scope.

How the hosted endpoint works
- Point your MCP client at
https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp. - On first use, complete OAuth in the browser (WoWSQL consent).
- Later requests send
Authorization: Bearer <token>to the MCP host, which talks to the WoWSQL API. - Optional URL query parameters:
project_ref,read_only=true,features=account,database,docs,storage.
Unauthenticated POST /mcp returns 401 with WWW-Authenticate metadata so clients can start OAuth. A browser GET /mcp is not the protocol path — clients must use POST JSON-RPC.
Self-host from the open-source repo
From the repo (see README):
cd mcp
npm install

Default local MCP URL: http://localhost:8787/mcp (port via PORT / MCP_PORT).

Copy packages/mcp-server-wowsql/.env.example to .env / .env.local before starting.
