Best way to enable connection pooling for free tier?

I just spun up a free WoWSQL project and started seeing 'too many connections' errors when my Next.js app deployed to Vercel. The dashboard shows PgCat is enabled but I'm not sure which port to use. Is the pooled endpoint different from the direct one? Also do prepared statements work through the pooler?
