WoWSQL gives every project a managed PostgreSQL database plus the backend pieces most apps need: authentication, file storage, realtime subscriptions and REST APIs generated from your schema. You can also connect AI coding assistants such as Claude, Cursor and ChatGPT through a hosted MCP server. You choose where each project runs: Mumbai, India or US East 1.
WoWSQL Technologies is a DPIIT-recognised startup and a member of the NVIDIA Inception program. The company is registered in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu.

Key facts
- What you get: managed PostgreSQL plus Auth, Storage, Realtime, auto-generated REST APIs (PostgREST,
/rest/v1), Edge Functions on Pro and Scale, and the MERA AI SQL assistant.- Regions: two regions, Mumbai and US East 1. Both are live.
- AI access: a hosted MCP server at
https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcpwith OAuth 2.0,project_refscoping andread_only=true.- Pricing: Free $0, Pro $25/month, Scale $99/month (USD).
- Self-host: Apache-2.0 edition at github.com/WoWSQL/WoWSQL.
What you get in every project
Real Postgres, with the usual backend services already wired to it:
- PostgreSQL database. A full Postgres database, not a subset: standard SQL, extensions, Row Level Security (RLS) and any Postgres client.
- Authentication. Email and password, magic links, OAuth (Google, GitHub and Apple), JWT sessions and MFA. Auth works alongside Row Level Security: the anon key respects your RLS policies, and the service key (server-side only) bypasses them.
- Auto-generated REST APIs. Every table and view in the exposed schema gets REST endpoints at
/rest/v1/<table>, built on PostgREST, with RLS enforced. You don't write CRUD routes. - Realtime. Subscribe to
INSERT,UPDATEandDELETEevents on your tables over WebSockets, plus broadcast and presence channels. - Storage. S3-compatible buckets with CDN delivery. Access is controlled by policies.
- Edge Functions. TypeScript functions for custom logic, included on Pro and Scale.
- MERA AI SQL assistant. Describe a query in plain English and MERA writes the PostgreSQL for you in the dashboard SQL editor.
Every module runs on the same database, so there's one place for your data, users, files and policies.
Built for AI coding agents (MCP)
WoWSQL runs a hosted Model Context Protocol (MCP) server at https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp. Add that URL to Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code or another MCP client, and your assistant can list projects, run SQL and search the WoWSQL docs.
- OAuth 2.0 sign-in. Clients get a token through a browser consent screen in the WoWSQL app, so you don't paste long-lived API keys into a config file.
- Scoping.
project_refpins the assistant to one project.read_only=trueblocksINSERT,UPDATE,DELETEand DDL.features=database,docslimits which tool groups are registered. - Rate limits by plan. Pro allows 100 MCP requests a minute and Scale allows 250.
Example of a scoped, read-only connection:
https://mcp.wowsql.com/mcp?project_ref=YOUR_PROJECT&read_only=true&features=database,docs
Two regions: Mumbai and US East 1
When you create a project, you pick its region:
- Mumbai, India: for apps whose users are in India, and for teams that want their primary database in India.
- US East 1 (N. Virginia): for North American and global users.
The two regions share the same platform, dashboard and APIs.
Open source and self-hostable
Want to run the stack yourself? The self-hosted edition of WoWSQL is open source under the Apache-2.0 licence (github.com/WoWSQL/WoWSQL). It runs with Docker as a set of containers behind a Kong API gateway: PostgreSQL, PostgREST, Auth, Storage, Realtime, Redis and the Studio dashboard. Your code calls the same /rest/v1, /auth/v1, /storage/v1 and /realtime/v1 paths on both, so you can develop locally and deploy to the managed service, or the other way round. See the self-hosting docs.
SDKs and tools
- Client SDKs: TypeScript/JavaScript (
@wowsql/sdk), Python, Go, Java, PHP, Ruby, Rust, Swift, Flutter/Dart, Kotlin and C#. - Tooling: a CLI for scaffolding, a VS Code extension, the official MCP server (MCP Registry:
com.wowsql/mcp) and type generation.
import WowSQLClient from '@wowsql/sdk'
const client = new WowSQLClient({
projectUrl: 'myproject',
apiKey: 'wowsql_anon_your_key_here',
})
const users = await client.table('users').select('*').get()

When WoWSQL is not the right fit
Being upfront saves you a migration later:
- You need copy-on-write database branching for every pull request. Neon and Xata specialise in this.
- You need a GraphQL API out of the box. WoWSQL's generated API is REST.
- You need many regions worldwide today.
- You depend on a large ecosystem of community examples and integrations.

Frequently asked questions
What is a Postgres development platform?
It's a managed PostgreSQL database bundled with the services an app needs: auth, APIs, storage, realtime and tooling. You build on the database directly instead of wiring separate services together.
Is WoWSQL real PostgreSQL?
Yes. Every project is a standard Postgres database. You can connect with psql or any Postgres client, use RLS and extensions, and export with pg_dump.
Is there a free tier?
Yes. The Free plan includes one project, 256 MB of database storage, 512 MB of file storage and 5 GB of bandwidth. No credit card is required.
Can AI assistants manage my database?
Yes, through the hosted MCP server at mcp.wowsql.com/mcp. It signs in with OAuth and can be limited to one project or set to read-only.
Where is WoWSQL based?
WoWSQL Technologies Private Limited is registered in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India (CIN U62013TN2025PTC186985). It is founded and led by Saravana Pradeep P.
Start building
Create a project in Mumbai or the US, then create a table in the SQL editor (or ask MERA). After that, call /rest/v1/<table> from your app with @wowsql/sdk.
